Schlein, Esq., a partner in the law firm of Ruden, McClosky, Smith, Schuster & Russell, P.A., authored an article, 'The Ten Commandments for preventing a government investigation," for the November 11, 2003 edition of Florida Medical Business. Distributed throughout the state of Florida, this publication is received via the mail by licensed physicians, osteopaths, chiropractors and podiatrists in Florida; top hospital department heads and administrators at Florida's 215 acute care, psychiatric and rehabilitation hospitals; top nursing home administrators at Florida's largest ALFs and SNFs; managed care executives at every HMO, PPO and indemnity insurer licensed in the state; and other health care consultants.
A member of the Firm's Health and White Collar Crime Practice Groups, Mr. Schlein concentrates his practice in matters involving health care fraud and fraud against the government. His practice includes representing clients who are under investigation by state or federal authorities, and assisting public and private sector clients with matters involving corporate integrity and internal compliance. He has also consulted extensively in the areas of law enforcement operations and procedures.
Mr. Schlein spent ten years with the Florida Attorney General's Office. He was Special Counsel to then Attorney General Robert A. Butterworth, and since 1994 served as Director of Florida's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, recognized as one of the most effective health care fraud enforcement agencies in the nation. He has managed numerous multi-million dollar health care fraud cases and helped develop global litigation strategies for the National Association of Medicaid Fraud Control Units. He also speaks nationally on Florida's False Claims Act and qui tam litigation.
